Precision Finding provides step-by-step guidance to the AirPods' location. The U1 chip supports it from around 35-50 feet, but tests show the second-gen UWB chip works from 150-200 feet in real-world use, outperforming Apple's estimates.

The improved range requires an iPhone 15 or newer, which also has the upgraded UWB chip. In one instance, the feature located AirPods Pro 3 stuffed in a backpack on the opposite side of a house.
