Apple releases macOS Golden Gate 27 exclusively for Apple silicon Macs. The update adds Siri AI as a dedicated app with personal context and cross-app tasks, Visual Intelligence for screen content, improved photo tools, Safari tab grouping, natural language shortcuts, design refinements, stronger parental controls, and broad performance gains.

Apple has released macOS Golden Gate 27, the latest version of its Mac operating system.

macOS Golden Gate 27 requires Apple silicon. The free update is available only on Macs with an Apple silicon chip and is not available on Intel Macs. Users can download it through the Software Update section of System Settings.

Siri AI debuts as a dedicated app. The update introduces Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence that is more personal, more capable, and more conversational. It integrates into Spotlight for searching answers on almost any topic, draws on personal context from messages, mail, photos and more, and can perform tasks across apps. A dedicated Siri app allows users to revisit and resume past conversations, which sync via iCloud across Apple devices. Siri AI is rolling out to users and can be turned on in Settings.

Visual Intelligence arrives on Mac. Users can now select a window of the screen and have Siri answer questions or take actions with onscreen content, such as adding events to a calendar. The feature is accessible via the keyboard shortcut Command-Shift-Space.

Photo editing gains intelligent tools. New capabilities include Spatial Reframing to reframe a photo after capture and the Extend tool to expand shots. Enhancements to the Clean Up tool remove distractions with better quality and more realistic infill, even in complex scenes.

Safari receives tab grouping and monitoring features. Tabs can now be automatically grouped into topics for easier discovery. The Notify Me tool monitors pages for changes like price drops or restocks and sends alerts. Describe an Extension allows natural language creation of custom extensions, such as adding a button to save recipes.

Shortcuts can be built with natural language. The Describe a Shortcut feature lets users automate tasks by providing a simple description, with all required steps assembled automatically. One example is a shortcut that texts a partner with an estimated arrival time based on traffic when heading home from work.

Liquid Glass design receives refinements. Updates improve readability, and a new slider allows customization from ultra-clear to fully tinted. The release also adds uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and more detailed app icons.

New parental controls focus on child safety. Features help parents manage content visibility, communications, and app access. Ask to Browse requires children to request permission before visiting new websites in Safari. Communication Safety protections expand, while Time Allowances and Schedules provide flexible, age-tailored management of app usage across categories and times of day or week.
