Dragon Quest XII Renamed Beyond Dreams After Development Restart
Square Enix revealed DRAGON QUEST XII: Beyond Dreams after restarting its development due to many hurdles at the series' 40th anniversary showcase, while also announcing DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World for Xbox Series X|S and other platforms. The news underscores ongoing activity for the franchise, which has seen its recent HD-2D remakes sell a combined 4 million copies.


Development has restarted under a new structure with a reshuffled team after hitting "a lot of hurdles" in the past.

This newest addition to the DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS series follows dual protagonists Bianca and Nera, famously from DRAGON QUEST V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
Outside of the showcase, Square Enix confirmed that DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake and DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake have sold a combined 4 million copies across all platforms. Both announced games remain listed as TBD.
