General Motors plans to build hybrid versions of its Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia three-row SUVs at a factory in Lansing, Michigan, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters said the timing could not be learned, and it did not say what type of hybrid system the vehicles would use.

GM did not confirm the models. In a statement, the company said it plans to invest in its Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant to prepare for future hybrid-electric vehicle production, with details on nameplates and timing to come closer to launch. The plant currently builds the gas-powered Enclave, Traverse and Acadia. GM said it and the U.S. Department of Energy are restructuring a previously awarded conversion grant so the funds go to hybrid production at the plant.

CEO Mary Barra told analysts last week that GM will have hybrids in multiple segments and that the work is already in the plan. GM sells a hybrid in the U.S. only in the Corvette, and Reuters reported that dealers have been pressing the company for hybrids as its U.S. market share fell to 16.6% in the first nine months of the year from 17.4%.
