Santa Monica Announces God of War: Laufey Prequel for PS5
Santa Monica Studio announced God of War: Laufey, a prequel starring Faye, with 20 minutes of footage at Sony’s State of Play. The game expands on a key character whose actions drove the events of God of War (2018) and who appeared only in flashbacks in Ragnarok.

State of Play closed with 20 minutes of Laufey footage. The debut showed sword-wielding Faye exploring atmospheric, lushly rendered ruins and gracefully smiting enemies with her blade. At one point she is grabbed by two formidable foes against whose armor her blade shatters.
Before all is said and done, Faye ends up having a friendly chat with a gelatinous cube.
Her captors are clearly bad news as they mistreat creatures of the realm. They take her to a red-skinned demon lord and a blue-skinned woman who takes a splinter from Faye's palm. They threaten to kill Faye but are distracted by a light in the distance.

Faye has shaped the God of War narrative with limited screen time. By the time God of War (2018) starts, Faye has already passed, though the game never gets into the specifics of what happened. Before her death, she set things in motion for Kratos and her son Atreus’ journey through the Nine Realms to spread her ashes.
She appeared in flashbacks in 2022’s God of War: Ragnarok. For a character who has such a profound impact on the story, she has remarkably little screen time. The prequel lets her be more than just a character haunting the narrative.
A PS5 remake of the original God of War trilogy is also in the works, as is a live-action Amazon show based on the more recent games.
