xAI Launches Grok Build Terminal AI Agent for Developers
TL;DRAI · 60 sec read

xAI launches Grok Build, a command-line AI coding agent for developers in early beta for SuperGrok Heavy subscribers. It presents action plans for approval before coding, displays changes in diff format, deploys subagents for complex tasks, and integrates with existing workflows including headless mode. This provides greater oversight than browser-based competitors like Claude Code.

xAI has unveiled Grok Build, a new AI-powered coding agent designed for professional software developers. Unlike many programming assistants, the tool does not operate in a browser window but directly from the command line in the local development environment. It enters the market as a new competitor to Claude Code.

The product launched in an early beta and is currently available only to subscribers of the SuperGrok Heavy plan. The new tool runs directly from the terminal and is intended for complex software development tasks.

Grok Build’s workflow differs from other tools. When a developer presents it with a complex task, the agent does not immediately begin writing code. Instead, it first presents a detailed action plan. The developer can review the plan, comment on specific steps, request changes, or approve it in full before the agent proceeds to modify the code.

Once the plan is approved, every change the agent makes is clearly displayed in “diff” format. This allows developers to easily track additions and deletions in a manner similar to popular version control systems.

For particularly large and complex tasks, Grok Build can break the work down into dedicated “subagents” that operate in parallel. This capability enables it to handle broad problems that require simultaneous inspection of multiple parts of a system, such as identifying the root cause of a performance regression.

The tool is designed to integrate into developers’ existing workflows, supporting current plugins and project configurations. It also includes a “headless mode” that allows it to run inside scripts and automation pipelines without manual interaction.

At this stage, access to Grok Build is limited to users of xAI’s most expensive subscription tier. The company plans to use feedback from early users to refine the model and product ahead of a wider release.

Waymo to Repurpose Robotaxi Batteries for Grid Storage

Waymo and B2U Storage Solutions announced a strategic supply agreement to repurpose used batteries from the robotaxi fleet for stationary energy storage on power grids. The deal could add hundreds of megawatt-hours of capacity to projects in California and Texas while extending battery usefulness in the same regions where the vehicles operate and charge.

Toyota Abandons Lexus LF-ZC Electric Sedan for 2026

Toyota has abandoned its planned Lexus LF-ZC electric sedan that was due by the end of 2026. The company will instead focus on larger SUVs while continuing solid-state battery and gigacasting development for future EVs.

Rivian Confirms June 9 Launch for R2 with Orders, Demos and Deliveries

Rivian confirms the R2 launches on June 9 with order invitations, demo drives at its Spaces and initial customer deliveries all beginning that day. The concurrent approach seeks to avoid criticism from the R1 rollout as the company shifts toward mass-market EVs.
