The Xbox version is positioned as the definitive edition. The release on September 22 is not simply a port from PC. It incorporates everything added to the PC version over the past year plus several entirely new additions and is described as a bigger, better and much more accessible experience.
Dune: Awakening has been out on PC since June 2025. All content and enhancements from that period will be included on Xbox at launch.
Gameplay mixes survival with deep RPG and narrative layers. Dune: Awakening is an open world survival game set on Arrakis where players survive and rise through exploration, combat, crafting and building either alone or with friends. It features immersive RPG and adventure gameplay including a deep narrative told through hours of cinematic storytelling with characters from the books and movies.
Players follow a set of goals that guide them through the world. The large open world spans the survival-focused Hagga Basin, major cities such as Arrakeen, the vast Deep Desert with its spice and sandworms, and more. An RPG-like progression system offers five Schools of the Imperium where players choose skills and abilities to unlock.
It delivers the full experience from start to finish at the player's own pace rather than a scaled-down version.
Late-game play centers on faction conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. Players rise through their ranks and complete missions to ensure victory in the Landsraad. Cities such as Arrakeen and Harko Village include banks, shops, drinking establishments, stories to unravel and other players in multiplayer.
Traversal is a core mechanic with ground and flying vehicles, climbing, rappelling and soaring. Combat is a sandbox system combining melee weapons, ranged weapons and special powers. The game supports full single-player, private servers with friends or large-scale multiplayer on official servers with hundreds of people. Sandworms are present and players must tread lightly.
Single-player mode and console optimizations debut on Xbox. Single-player is one of the most important new additions. It delivers the full experience from start to finish at the player's own pace rather than a scaled-down version. UI and controls have been optimized for Xbox and players can choose between Performance Mode, which targets 60 FPS as the default, and Quality Mode.
