Microsoft's October security release lists 10 vulnerabilities in Visual Studio Code, and the most serious is a remote code execution bug scored 9.6. The fixes shipped in VS Code 1.141.1 on Oct 13, and Microsoft rates all 10 flaws Important. None of them are exploited in the wild or publicly disclosed.

The 9.6 bug leads the list. CVE-2026-102238 is a remote code execution flaw caused by path traversal. Microsoft gives it a CVSS score of 9.6, the highest of the 10. All CVSS scores in this release are Microsoft's own.
Both flaws allow local bypass of security features.
Three more remote code execution flaws score 8.8. CVE-2026-69370 is a command injection bug (GitHub advisory GHSA-xf67-g42g-pg73). CVE-2026-70098 is a Workspace Trust bypass (GHSA-r2p5-jgfw-r5vw). CVE-2026-102235 is the fourth remote code execution flaw, also scored 8.8.

Four security feature bypasses come next. CVE-2026-102233 scores 7.8, CVE-2026-102231 scores 7.7, CVE-2026-102234 scores 7.4 and CVE-2026-102232 scores 7.0.

Two lower-scored flaws round out the list. CVE-2026-102229 is an information disclosure bug scored 6.8. CVE-2026-102851, scored 6.1, involves sandbox approvals for MCP servers.
Fixed build 1.141.1 resolves both issues.
All 10 are rated Important. Despite the 9.6 and 8.8 scores, Microsoft rates every one of these flaws Important rather than Critical. Microsoft says none have been exploited or publicly disclosed.

What to do. All 10 flaws are listed in Microsoft's October update, and Microsoft's advice is to update to VS Code 1.141.1. Microsoft's release notes for version 1.141 say the 1.141.1 update addresses these security issues. If you already have VS Code installed, use Check for Updates in VS Code, then confirm you are on 1.141.1. Downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux are on the VS Code release notes page.

Until you update, keep in mind that one of the 8.8 flaws, CVE-2026-70098, bypasses Workspace Trust. That means Workspace Trust should not be relied on to protect an unpatched copy of VS Code.
