Microsoft tests OpenClaw-style bots for 365 Copilot to enable 24/7 autonomous operation. Omar Shahine confirms exploration of such technologies for enterprise use. The always-on Copilot monitors Outlook inboxes and calendars to suggest tasks, with role-tailored agents for marketing, sales, and accounting that restrict permissions. Microsoft plans safer versions and demos at Build on June 2nd. This advances secure, local AI agents in business tools.

Microsoft is testing OpenClaw-style features for its 365 Copilot AI assistant to enable round-the-clock autonomous operation, according to a report from The Information cited by The Verge.

Omar Shahine, Microsoft's corporate vice president, confirms to The Information that the company is "exploring the potential of technologies like OpenClaw in an enterprise context." OpenClaw is an open-source platform for creating AI-powered agents that run locally on a user's device; it gained popularity earlier this year amid serious security concerns.

Sources tell The Information that Microsoft plans safer implementations. The always-on Copilot would monitor a user's Outlook inbox and calendar to suggest daily tasks. Microsoft also explores role-tailored agents for marketing, sales, and accounting to restrict permissions and silo access within businesses.

Microsoft aims to demonstrate these features at its Build conference starting June 2nd.

EXPERT TAKE

Enterprise admins should monitor Build for permission controls that could mitigate security risks in autonomous M365 agents.

CISA Warns Hackers Exploit Patched SolarWinds Serv-U Flaw

CISA warned that hackers are actively exploiting a recently patched high-severity flaw in SolarWinds Serv-U software to crash servers and added it to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog. The agency ordered federal agencies to patch by June 19 and urged all organizations to mitigate the ongoing attacks immediately.

S&P 500 Rejects Fast-Track for SpaceX and AI Firms

S&P Dow Jones Indices refused to waive seasoning, profitability, or public float rules for SpaceX's IPO, blocking accelerated S&P 500 entry that could have unlocked billions in passive funds. The same barriers now apply to expected IPOs from OpenAI and Anthropic, limiting exposure of retirement assets to unprofitable AI bets.

New York Passes One-Year Moratorium on New Large Data Centers

New York lawmakers approved a one-year moratorium on new large data centers, the first such statewide measure if signed by Governor Hochul. The pause aims to study environmental and energy impacts amid growing AI-driven demand.
